Above the Clouds
Free as a bird breaking through the clouds into the bright sunshine, these emerald trapiche earrings in 18k yellow gold with emerald tail feathers make a joyful pair. Their sweeping curves help to frame a beautiful face.
Typically emerald trapiche grows in hexagonal form. Trapiche means ‘mill’ in Spanish and the stone is so named because of its six dark spokes of carbon that radiate from the centre. I spotted this unusual pair of broken emerald trapiche at a gemstone fair in New York and they instantly transformed themselves in my mind into both wings and clouds. I decided to design a piece where they could be both.
